CAPT Lawrence E Gemma, USN (1965-1972 )


Larry Gemma, NAVCAD, Class 29-65 is from Worcester, MA. He joined the USNR at age 18 and entered U.S. Navy Preflight in AUG/1965 from UMASS/Amherst, MA.

Winged in DEC/1966, Larry was assigned to HS-3 for three years, flying H-3's, then NAS Pensacola for two years flying H-34's & H-2's, where he obtained his BA from UWF, Cum Laude. Larry left active duty in May/1972 and went to NAS SOWEY, MA, where he started flying H-3's immediately with HS-74 at NAS SOWEY, MA where, over 15 years, he became XO of HS-74; then XO of HSL-74 (change from H-3 to H-2), and then CO of HSL-74 flying H-2's.

As CAPT/USNR, Larry went to NAVWARCOL, Newport, RI, for four years in the war gaming department. He then volunteered for Operation Desert Storm, and served his last year, on active duty, as Deputy Ops for COMIDEASTFOR/COMUSNAVCENT, and retired in 1992.

Larry has two daughters, Michelle & Maria; and three grand children, Emma, Andrew and Isabelle; and still lives in CT with his partner, Patrica.
