Highlights: DECEASED 2003. Naval aviator and pioneer NACA/NASA test pilot, testing X-1,D-558-I Skystreak and D-558-II Skyrocket. Flew/tested 155 different types aircraft. Developed/ tested many concepts of space flight, flight simulation, and vehicles,(Lunar Excursion Vehicle, etc.)Selected Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame 1979, National Aeronautic Association (NAA) Elder Statesman 2001. Citation: Pioneer NACA pilot of the Nation's Supersonic flight research program. Flight tested the Bell XS-1 taking it to Mach l, initiated the next program phases with the Douglas D-558-I and D-558-II aircraft.
