WELCOME
The Naval-Aviator Network is dedicated to the thousands of men and women who passed through the Naval Air Training Command over the past 70-plus years. This website is a labor of love by a few retired folks who want to reclaim the old camaraderie we experienced wearing our "Wings of Gold."
This website was started as "The Navcads Network" in January 2007 by a handful of classmates from Navcad Pre-Flight Class 28-54. For more than 50 years, we had never made a serious effort to contact each other. Then we discovered that some classmates we thought would be with us forever were gone. That made it important, somehow, for us to preserve the memory of those dead classmates, and to restore the history of our class for families, friends and posterity. Because we knew there were other aviators like us with similar concerns, we decided to expand the initial website to include all Naval and Marine Aviators.
Free Membership — Once registered for a free membership, there's no cost of any kind for eligible persons to participate in every aspect of this site.
Eligibility — All Naval and Marine Aviators, Flight Officers, students in training, and immediate surviving family members are eligible to participate actively in this website. There are no other requirements.
Purpose — The purpose of this website is three-fold:
- To aid communication among old friends;
- To commemorate aviators who are no longer with us; and
- To educate the public about the role of Naval and Marine aviation.
Privileges — Registered members may submit biographies, memories and photos for publication on this site. Members — and others — may make contact with each other through our communication conduit. And for those authors who never found a publisher, we invite them to submit manuscripts for publication on our sister website Tailhook Ebooks.
Volunteers — All persons maintaining this site are volunteers. Our funding is from our own pockets. We take no advertising, however, we do accept voluntary donations from members who appreciate our work. Periodically, we also need a volunteer or two to work with their home computers. The tasks include research, correspondence, writing and editing, and database management. It's helpful if you're experienced in business software and communicating via computer. We can provide some programs and training. If you want to volunteer, just email the webmaster.
Contact Us — If you're eligible, please register and join the fun. If you're not a member, we'd appreciate your taking a few moments to sign our guestbook. And we'd also like you to add any constructive suggestions you have about what we are doing.
Now, a little about the site:
All pages on the site are formatted for Windows Internet Explorer 5.0 or later. They may not look the same on other browsers. Contact information for most website purposes can be found through the links at the bottom of most pages. You can quickly jump to the main site divisions by clicking on the menu at the right of each page, and you may search for a specific word on any page with the menu's "Find" feature:
About Us — The "About Us" button will always bring you to this Welcome page.
Network — The "Network" button helps you find the biographical information provided by our registered members. Clicking a name on any network page takes you to that individual's biography. There are five start points to search the member database:
- "Roster" — A list of all member aviators, their ranks and branches;
- "AOCs" — A list of AOC-commissioned members by class and year;
- "Navcads" — A list of Navcad-commissioned members by class and year;
- "NFOs" — A list of Naval Flight Officers who have registered with us;
- "Assignments" A list of the more memorable assignments in a member's career — great searching for members at a particular place and time.
Feedback — Feedback contains short pieces about this site. This is a hodge-podge of email, letters, comments, and ideas from visitors and participants, plus statistics from our website server that tell how we are doing. You are invited to check this regularly.
Nostalgia — Offers an opportunity for members to upload any information you think other members might enjoy. It might include reunions, promotions, events, Pentagon news, short magazine articles, non-controversial opinion pieces, videos, etc. You may look for old buddies, ask for photos of something remembered, request first-hand information about an event, or seek unclassified technical information. Etc. It's the place for members to exchange memories, information and ideas. However, we will not upload political, religious, racial, or other controversial topics. Selection is entirely at the discretion of the webmaster.
Tailhook Ebooks — Tailhook Ebooks, our sister website, is for members to publish personally written articles, books, poetry, stories, or other information that may be of interest to naval and marine aviators, their families, or the general public. However, we will not publish political, religious, racial, or other controversial topics. Selection is entirely at the discretion of the bookmaster.
"Find a Word"— Use the "Find" menu button to instantly locate a word on any page.
We hope you'll find this website interesting and enjoyable. More importantly, we hope you'll participate and use it to keep in touch with Naval-Aviator friends anywhere.
— The Webmaster
Disclaimer
The Naval-Aviator Network, Tailhook Ebooks, and the volunteers maintaining the sites are not affiliated in any way with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, or the Federal Government. All materials on the site are provided by members, or are from unclassified official sources usually downloaded from the internet.
Please be aware that we have no way of checking the authenticity of a member or submitted information. We ask only three questions that most eligible aviators should know. Usually that's enough to screen imposters. Otherwise we can only hope that someone will blow the whistle if a prankster makes a bogus submission.
Also, no matter how much money is spent or expertise utilized to make a site secure, there's always somebody ... So, we do not publish on the net any personal home address, telephone number, email, or other contact information. If you want to get in touch with a listed member, just use the "contact" form with the name of that individual, and we'll forward it. If addressees want to respond, they'll return an email directly to you.
Finally, we try our best to avoid mistakes. Please be understanding if you find something that displeases you. Let us know where we went wrong, and we'll do our best to fix it. Remember, we're only volunteers, so be kind.
